Terms of Reference At least one award, valued at a minimum of $3,500, will be granted annually in any term to an undergraduate student who meets the following criteria: - is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility; - is in good academic standing; - is enrolled in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and majoring in Computing Science, Software Systems, Computer Engineering or Electronics Engineering; - has completed courses in the subject areas of cyber security, networking or software security; - has demonstrated interest/engagement in cyber/networking or software security-based experiences including Co-op, or community involvement/activities such as cyber/networking/software security focused clubs and/or student organizations. Preference will be given to a student who is Indigenous, is someone from a Racialized Group or self-identifies as a woman or non-binary. Applications must include: - a r�sum� and a one-page personal letter outlining the applicant�s involvement in the experiences/activities listed above; - a letter of reference from an individual in a leadership role or a supervisor who can verify these experiences/activities; and - a brief statement indicating that the applicant self-identifies as someone from one or more of the preferred groups that qualify for this opportunity. Indigenous Peoples: For the purposes of these general definitions, the category of �Indigenous peoples� encompasses the First Nations (status and non-status), Inuit, and M�tis peoples of Canada. Racialized Groups: Persons who do not identify as Caucasian or White. Racialized persons include, but are not limited to, persons who identify as Black, African (Ethiopian, Somali, Nigerian, etc.), North African (Egyptian, Moroccan, Tunisian, etc.), Caribbean (Barbadian, Haitian, Jamaican, etc.), East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.), South Asian (Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, etc.), Southeast Asian (Filipino, Thai, Vietnamese, etc.), West Asian (Iraqi, Iranian, Syrian, etc.), Central Asian (Afghan, Uzbek, Kazakh, etc.), Latin American (Mexican, Colombian, Venezuelan, etc.), Oceanic (Melanesian, Micronesian, Polynesian, etc.), or mixed race. For the purposes of these general definitions, Indigenous peoples are excluded from the category of Racialized Groups. The award will be granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the nomination of the Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences or their designate.
