| Terms of Reference | This award was created in 2023 to recognize SFU's commitment to honour (a) former football athletes with NCAA athletic aid agreements from 2022-23 and (b) new incoming student athletes for Fall 2023 promised funding based on a national letter of intent (a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution), prior to the decision to cancel the football program. As other athletic award funding requires athletic ability to qualify, special dispensation is being made through this award to remove that requirement and providing funding to the eligible student. This opportunity will be awarded to undergraduate students (domestic and international) who meet the following eligibility criteria: - must be enrolled in 12 SFU units in the term of eligibility; - must be in good academic standing; and - must be former football student with a NCAA/SFU athletic aid agreement from 2022-23 or be a new incoming student who was recruited to SFU football and promised funding through a national letter of intent (NLI). - have signed a new SFU athletic aid agreement to receive this award in the current year. The award amount will align with a current student's individual original 2022-2023 athletic aid agreement or in the case of a new incoming student for Fall 2023, what was promised funding through their national letter of intent. The amount will not be increased or decreased. The funding disbursement will split over the Fall and Spring terms only. No funding deferrals or Summer term disbursements will be allowed. In cases where a student received a Fall only or Spring only disbursement, this will continue to be upheld. Students are eligible to receive this award funding up until the completion of their first undergraduate degree (maximum 130 units). A student who becomes deactivated after three (3) consecutive terms of not enrolling in courses at SFU, will no longer qualify for this award funding. The award will be administered by the office of Financial Aid and Awards and granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the nomination of the Director, Student Athlete Services or their designate. |
