Terms of Reference | At least one award, valued at a minimum of $10,000, will be granted annually in any term to an undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:- identifies as a protected convention refugee and has been granted Canadian permanent residency through one of the following two channels:--- First-generation resettled refugee - a person who has fled their country, is temporarily in a second country and then is offered a permanent home in a third country. Refugees resettled to Canada are selected abroad and become permanent residents as soon as they arrive in Canada.----Officially recognized refugee claimant or asylum seeker - a person who has fled their country and is asking for protection in another country (Canada). Officially recognized means that their application of claiming refugee has been accepted, and they have already been granted protection from the Government of Canada.- is enrolled full-time in the term of eligibility;- is pursuing a bachelor's degree in any faculty;- is in good academic standing; and- has demonstrated community service within an organization of benefit to the Refugee community such as the SFU WUSC Local Committee, the SFU Student Refugee Program, or any other community organization that supports the refugee communityApplications should include:- a letter of reference from a supervisor or team member within the organization who can attest to the applicant's service or volunteer activities; and- a complete application outlining how this award would help them achieve their education and organization of benefit to the refugee community.The award will be administered by the office of Financial Aid and Awards and granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the nomination of the Senior Director, International Services for Students. |
