| Terms of Reference | One award, valued initially at $1,000, will be granted annually in the Spring term to undergraduate students who fulfill the following criteria: - are enrolled full-time* in a Bachelor's degree program in the Faculty of Science in the current Summer term (or were enrolled full-time in the previous Spring or Fall terms); - are majoring in Biological Sciences; - completed the Independent Study Semester (ISS) in the Department of Biological Sciences in one of the previous three terms (Spring, Summer, Fall); and - are in good academic standing. Multiple awards may be disbursed if endowment fund income permits; however, the value of additional awards must be equal to the first award given in any fiscal year. Preference will be given to Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. Students may receive this award only once during their SFU undergraduate career. Applications must include: - a one-page letter from the applicant summarizing the ISS research and their role in it; - a copy of the applicant's completed research report or other materials produced during the ISS; - copies of post-secondary transcripts; - a letter of recommendation from the applicant's ISS supervisor; and - a letter of recommendation from a member of the applicant's supervisory committee. Applications should be submitted to the Department of Biological Sciences by July 31st. The award will be granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the nomination of the Chair, Department of Biological Sciences. |
