Terms of Reference | The purpose of the Melanie O'Neill Chemistry Undergraduate Research Award is to recognize and reward an outstanding student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry.The award(s) will be granted annually to an undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:a) full-time enrollment, majoring in Chemistry at Simon Fraser University;b) in good academic standing; and,c) has demonstrated research excellence.Application for this award must include:a) a supporting letter from a faculty member who can speak to the demonstrated research excellence of the nominee;b) a curriculum vitae outlining the applicant's research; and,c) a current, unofficial transcript.Applications should be submitted each term to the Chemistry Chair's office. The Departmental Undergraduate Studies Committee will be responsible for the nomination of a recipient for this award and will forward it to the Chair, Department of Chemistry.The recipient(s) will be invited to present a talk on his/her research work, in conjunction with the regular Chemistry Undergraduate Research presentations which are typically scheduled at the end of each term.The award will be granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee based on a recommendation from the Chair, Department of Chemistry.*Processing Note: If nominee is enrolled part-time, check transcript to see if student is graduating/last-term. If student is in last term, seek approval for exception. Exceptions MAY be granted as this award is based on excellence in research |
