Terms of Reference The purpose of this award(s) is to recognize an excellent philosophical essay written by an undergraduate student.It is an annual award tenable in any term and valued at a minimum of $500. The following criteria must be met: a) be in good academic standing and enrolled full time at SFU as either an honors or a major or a minor in Philosophy; b) must have written the essay while enrolled at SFU as an undergraduate; c) the essay must demonstrate academic and research excellence at the undergraduate level with particular emphasis placed upon originality and promise of ability in research. Any faculty member in the Philosophy department can nominate an undergraduate student for this award. Nominations from the Philosophy Department will be submitted to the Financial Aid and Awards office by early/mid May so that the award(s) may be handed out before the June Convocation. The award(s) will be made by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the recommendation of the Chair, Philosophy Department Awards Committee.
