Terms of Reference The Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Award, valued at approximately $1000, will be awarded annually to recognize a Biological Sciences major demonstrating outstanding potential for research. The award is based on research carried out as an undergraduate. Written work, such as an Independent Study Semester report, Undergraduate Research report (BISC 498 or 499), published or submitted paper are all particularly valuable in helping evaluate eligibility for this award, but any evidence of strong research ability will be considered. Generally, the research must have been carried out at Simon Fraser University during the previous two years. Work carried out as part of a larger research effort (e.g. while working in an SFU faculty member's group) is eligible. To apply, submit a cover letter explaining the research aims and your role in the project as well as a copy of the reports or relevant research material. Solicit a letter of reference from the SFU faculty member who supervised or was closest to the work. Application closing date is July 31st. Consideration will be given to the applicant's outstanding research potential, letter of reference and CGPA. If sufficient funds are available, multiple awards may be granted. A student may receive this award only once during their undergraduate career. Submit requested materials to: Department Scholarship Committee, Department of Biological Sciences, Simon Fraser University. The award will be made by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the recommendation of the Biological Sciences Department Scholarship Committee. Awards will be granted to students who are enrolled in a minimum of 9 units of standard graded courses in the current Summer term or have been enrolled in a minimum of 9 units of standard graded course in the previous Spring or Fall terms.
