Terms of Reference | Awards, valued at a maximum of $5000 per year, are available in Fall and Spring terms to full-time Indigenous students pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree at Simon Fraser University. Undergraduate students must have completed at least 18 units at the University in order to be eligible to apply. Students must have a demonstrated connection to the Indigenous community. Applicants must be in good academic standing, and have also demonstrated excellence in one or more of: community service and/or cultural contributions to the University, Indigenous and/or general community at large.Indigenous peoples of Canada are defined in the Constitution Act, 1982, Section 35 (2) as including the Indian, Inuit and M�tis peoples of Canada. This definition has been taken from Statistics Canada, 2013. The application must include:- a resume outlining the details of the applicant�s community service and/or cultural contributions; - a one-page cover letter that responds to the following question � �How has/will your service and/or cultural contributions demonstrate a positive impact to the University, Aboriginal, and/or general community?�; - one or more letter(s) of reference from a community member who can verify the applicant�s involvement and/or contribution and speak to the positive impact of the applicant�s role; All supporting documentation must be submitted to the Financial Aid and Awards (faawards@sfu.ca) by the application deadline. This award will be granted by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee. |
